The designer was dubbed the King of Cling for creating clothes that accentuated the curves of a woman and embrace them like another skin. Alaia stayed away from the conventional fashion calendar and rebelled against industry heavyweights Anna Wintour and Karl Lagerfeld. He had only recently returned to the catwalk with a couture show after a six year hiatus.

Of course, the one celebrity who was most deeply affected by the designer's passing was his muse, Naomi Campbell.

This pain runs deep I wish I could wake up and it was all a bad dream . I love you Papa

She took to Instagram stating that the Tunisian designer she called 'Papa' 'understood the body of a woman more' than anyone and that she had been blessed to meet him at 16.

The fashion industry has certainly lost a legend. RIP Alaia.
