Corbyn is one of the most popular baby names of 2017, according to a new study.

A survey by website found over 50% of parents would consider calling their child Corbyn, and 15% would name a son Jeremy.

In contrast, only 4% would choose Theresa as a name for their newborn.

Siobhan Freegard, founder of, said:

“Corbyn is the stand-out naming trend this year and a strong name encompassing both the surname as first name and political name trend.

"We expect to see lots of babies conceived at Glastonbury or over the election period named after the Labour leader.

"But remember a week is a long time in politics and your child will have to have that name for a lifetime, so make sure you are sure before naming them after any politician.”

While this was only a small-scale study of 1,305 U.K. parents, Channel Mum’s findings give an interesting snapshot into the growing popularity of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn. It shows the influences he’s having in people's everyday life.

The most poular current naming trend, according to the survey, is using surnames as first names, with a 66% increase of this happening. More and more parents are choosing names like Jones, Parker, Hunter or Cooper.

Other popular trends according to the survey include:

- Non-Muslim families using Muslim names.

- Children being named after characters from the Disney film Frozen.

- An increase in gender neutral names, such as Sydney and Charlie.

- Names with X spellings.
