Unless you’ve just landed from Mars, you’ve probably heard about the scary clown pandemic spreading across the globe.

Well, the clown related frenzy has grown so big that it has forced one of the world’s most famous clowns, Ronald McDonald, into hiding. Sigh.

McDonald’s in New York told the Associated Press the company was being “thoughtful in respect to Ronald McDonald’s participation in community events” as a result of the “current climate around clown sightings in communities”.

The company didn’t give any details about how often its red-haired and red-mouthed mascot will be making appearances, but what we do know is that Mcdonald’s wants to keep its beloved mascot away from the controversy.

The burger chain’s decision comes after a growth in pranks around the world that involve creepy clown sightings and have forced police in some areas to respond.

Recent incidents include, a masked clown threatening to slit a woman’s throat in Walsall when he was unable to force his way into her car.

And in Bournemouth a man was grabbed and dragged along the street by an attacker wearing a clown costume.

Sightings of scary clowns have been escalating and have now occurred in countries across the globe in the past two months.

With his red hair and face paint, Ronald has been the face of Mcdonald’s since the early 1960s – but with all the bad press clowns have been receiving, it’s no wonder McDonald’s want Ronald to stay out of the limelight.
