Today, science informed us of the reasons that cats like hiding in boxes so much.

Are you ready for this?

We hope so, because it’s life-changing.

Cats like hiding in boxes because it’s warm. And cosy. And secretive. And because they hate you.

We might have already been able to tell veterinarian Claudia Vinke of Utrecht University this ourselves, if she’d asked.

Unfortunately, despite our extensive and life-long study of cat behaviour, we didn’t get the call.

Still, we enjoy cats (particularly stock images ones) so we thought we’d celebrate this breakthrough in scientific discovery in the way that the internet knows best – with a great big gallery of cats. In boxes.

Here you go.
