5 celebrity Twitter meltdowns

Everybody loves a good celebrity Twitter meltdown. The weirdly spelt insults, random hashtags and general word vomit spewed is such a contrast from their usual picture perfect Hollywood image. Here are five of the best, starting with Alec Baldwin’s latest burst of twatty tweets...

Alec Baldwin

Alec Baldwin has previous. Not content with getting all fired up on Twitter after getting thrown off an American Airlines plane in 2011 for refusing to switch his phone off, the SpongeBob SquarePants film star recently went all gangster on a Daily Mail journalist, who accused his wife of tweeting at the funeral of James Gandolfini.

“I’m gonna find you, George Stark, you toxic little queen, and I’m gonna”.

Nice bit of homophobia from Alec there too.

If you’re just coming back from Glastonbury, you’re probably tired, dirty and hungover, but you’ll also be ecstatic about being at one of the best parties in the world. Not Wiley. His Glastonbury didn’t start well.

Then he decided he wasn’t being paid enough to perform and decided to sack his manager. Via Twitter.

Then he decided he hated all festivals, before asking the official Glastonbury festival Twitter account to cancel his performance.

Getting no response, Wiley then asked both Michael and Emily Eavis to throw him off the line up. Understandably, his tweets were attracting attention by now from fans, who compared his diva antics unfavourably to those of Jay Z. Wiley was not impressed, unleashing perhaps our favourite Glasto insult of all time...

Charlie Sheen

Charlie Sheen loves Twitter. Holder of the world record for quickest Twitter account to reach one million followers, Sheen’s 2011 firing from hit sitcom Two and a Half Men led him to the Twitter meltdown of all time, where he cursed out his previous employers, shacked up with pornstars and gave the world hashtags like #tigerblood and #winning.

Courtney Love

Some people just shouldn’t be allowed near social media – and ex-Hole frontwoman and Kurt Cobain-wife Courtney Love is one of them. Her roll call of Twitter madness includes repeatedly tweeting estranged daughter Frances Bean, suggesting that Dave Grohl is ‘sexually obsessed’ with Frances and public fights with Lily Allen, Amanda Bynes and Billy Corgan. Time to hit delete Courtney.

Jim Carrey’s #BOING

Breakups aren’t easy, so it’s probably best to stay away from social media when you’re going through one. Not Jim Carrey. After breaking up with girlfriend Jenny McCarthy back in 2010, Carrey did little to stop rumours of mental instability after going on a bizarre Twitter tirade using the hashtag #BOING.

Sample tweets included: “#BOING makes a meal out of life and sets the table for you and your friends!!!”, “#BOING takes a lickin’ and keeps on ticking’! =B^)-“ and simply “~BOING Mother F%*ckers #BOING”.
