It has saved ‘Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii’ and ‘Number 16 Bus Shelter’ from lives of eternal mockery, and now New Zealand has revealed which other names it has banned its imaginative parents from christening their offspring.

The country’s Department of Internal Affairs yesterday published a list of 77 names that were rejected on the grounds of being just plain mental.

Our favourites include Anal, Lucifer, Mafia No Fear, Queen Victoria, 4Real, and “.”, which we assume would be pronounced ‘full stop’, but really, who knows?

Justice, the most popular rejected name, was rejected 62 times.

Names that indicate status are also vetoed, so it’s a no to Duke, Princess, Prince, Major, Royal, Majesty, Bishop and King – incidentally, all of which were included in the top ten most popular.

Names that were rejected for less obvious reasons include Honour, Baron and A.J.

The Baby Name Police have previously also criticised the parents of twins who were christened ‘Benson’ and ‘Hedges’.

We can’t think why – in fact we think it’s fairly inspired.
