Christmas has come early for customers of Harrods as the department opens its Christmas World a record 151 days before Christmas day. The opening of the store’s Christmas section always takes place in late summer but this year, managers wanted to cater for the demand of international customers visiting the UK for the Olympics. Features of the winter wonderland at Harrods include a giant snowglobe village, a replica of the Tower of London holding a set of Christmas crackers (will set you back £1,299) and a unique range of Christmas ice creams. Mince Pie, Christmas pudding with Brandy Butter and Sprouts are among the flavours. Not wanting to fall short of their competitor, Selfridges has also introduced new Christmas products. Customers wanting to combine their support for team GB with the festive season can purchase union flag baubles. Recent weather may make it harder to shift their polar bear hats, though. Tickets for Harrods Christmas Grotto are also expected to be in demand. The general public will be able to book their slot from Tuesday 18th September, while priority members can buy tickets even earlier. In London’s department stores it really is beginning to look like Christmas. Speaking of Harrods’ decision to make the most wonderful time of the year 5 months in duration, a spokesman for the store said: ‘The peak for international shoppers begins at the start of July so we tried to cater to this early demand where possible.’ While some shoppers may wish to leave their Christmas shopping until Christmas Eve, it seems that eager planners wishing it could be Christmas everyday will have their wish granted for at least half of the year.
