Welcome to Woofstock

While you lucky students are off for the summer you might find yourself packing the tent up ready to go get muddy at a festival. But spare a thought for all those students who haven’t got a ticket. For those who aren’t going to a festival this year there’s always next year, and perhaps you could attend this one... if you have a dog of course.
Woofstock is a festival in Toronto that has been running since 2003 to celebrate a man’s best friend. Last weekend more than 300,000 pooch owners took their dogs to the two-day festival.
Organiser Marlene Cook told the Toronto Sun: ‘I wanted to do an event that honoured household dogs.’ And that she did! The festival now holds a dog talent and fashion show and a prize for best dressed. The event also held a competition to find the next Toto for Wizard of Oz performances on the new American reality TV show ‘Over the Rainbow’.
Whilst previous winners of the best dressed award include a dog dressed as Bob Marley and another dog playing homage to the Men in Black trilogy, this year a dog named Remy won who came as a ‘junior fire-fighter’ dressed as a true rocker (see Remy above). ‘Only in America,’ I hear you say, but it’s not too far off the British radar: we’re dog lovers too. Take Crufts for example; it would only take a few trivial award ceremonies and silly dog outfits to transform it into our very own Woofstock! Perhaps ‘Lay Download’ or ‘Walk in the Park’ or even ‘Bark-life’... have fun making these up all day.
