Getting drunk ...without the alcohol?

We all know that filling a shopping basket with booze can have a disastrous affect on the student bank account.

Whilst money-saving alternatives might see us indulging in the cheapest brands of vodka possible and taking advantage of every three-for-two wine offer that we see, maybe we should in fact be taking advice from Harvard professor David Edwards.

Edwards has developed a way to get drunk without having to actually drink any of that pesky alcohol.

WAHH Quantum Sensations (snappy?) is a spray that intoxicates the user immediately – before sobering them up seconds later.

The spray released contains 0.075ml of alcohol – 1000 times smaller than your typical shot.

French designer Philippe Stark says: "Our societies and codes of amusement have led to the over-consumption of alcoholic beverages as a kind of social placebo... We asked ourselves whether we might provide the same agreeable sensation as comes with a sip of alcohol without running the risk of drunkenness."

Maybe it’s just us – but we’re failing to see the market for this product, since it does away with the social aspect that is really the only point of drinking.

Also, at $26 it’s significantly more expensive than your average bottle of vodka/ plonk.

All things considered, TNS will continue on our merry way to the pub - we're guessing you won't be far behind.
