The hangover just isn’t ending for the British men who two weeks ago were charged with stealing a penguin – they’ve now each been hit with a £600 fine.
Rhys Jones, 21, and Keri Mules, 20, are facing hefty charges after breaking into a Brisbane theme park on 14th April and stealing seven-year-old fairy penguin Dirk.
They also climbed into a shark enclosure, where they set off a fire extinguisher, and stripped to their underwear to swim with dolphins.
The Cardiff pair were surprised to find Dirk frequenting their rented apartment the next morning.
They took photographs to commemorate his visit and posted them on Facebook before releasing him into a nearby canal.
Dirk was later returned to Sea World by a concerned member of the public.
Yesterday Jones and Mules pleading guilty to trespass, stealing and keeping a protected animal.
Magistrate Brian Kucks had some wise words for them as they received their fines.
“Perhaps next time you’re at a party,” he told them, “you will consider drinking a little less vodka.”
