German politician in bunny-BBQ scandal

A German Green politician has been left red-faced following his comments on a cartoon of a real-life ‘bunny barbecue’.

‘Bunny barbecue’-gate scandalised Germany in 2010, when two drug addicts were found at the scene of a brutal murder – that of Lieselotte and Hoppel, two rabbits who found themselves the victims of a gristly pre-meditated murder.

The unfortunate bunnies were guests of honour at a drug-fuelled feast,  for which the criminals had prepared by taking along vegetables and a butchers knife.

The story has been floating around the internet ever since – which is how Nikolaus Hoenning, a Green politician who hopes to run in Munich’s 2014 mayoral election, stumbled upon it on Facebook.

Hoenning ‘liked’ the page and, shockingly, commented ‘Coole Aktion’ – which translates as ‘cool operation.’

The callous nature of the candidate’s comment has thrown the country into shock once again. His actions have been condemned by Greens and animal rights activists, and may have ramifications for his mayoral campaign.

Hoenning does not seem too blue about the reaction, merely calling his comment ‘flippant’.
