Religious headgear is allowed on driving licence pictures – and in Austria this includes pasta strainers!!

Three years after applying for a new driver’s licence the transport authorities have given an Austrian man a new card. The picture shows his head adorned with an upturned pasta strainer.

It has been ruled that the kitchen utensil is suitable religious attire for a Pastafarian.

Atheist Niko Alm said he belongs to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, a light-hearted "faith" whose members call themselves Pastafarians and whose "only dogma ... is the rejection of dogma.”

Alm now wants to apply for Pastafarianism to become an officially recognised faith in Austria.
