A teenager has been banned from driving for 17 months after being found drunk on a lawnmower in a south Wales village.
18 year old sixth former Joel Maunder was twice over the legal limit when he was found riding the lawnmower, maximum speed 15mph, near his parents’ home in Dinas Powys, five miles south of Cardiff.
Maunder was a mile away from his home and on his way to meet friends when he was discovered by police on a Saturday evening last month.
He was made to pay £85 costs and £15 victim surcharge alongside the driving ban when he was tried at Barry Magistrates Court on Wednesday 6th July.
Prosecutor Richie Paul said that he had 83 micrograms of alcohol in 100 milliliters of breath. The legal limit is 35/100.
A spokesperson for the £1700 Lawnflite lawnmower’s manufacturer EP Barrus said it advises people not to operate the machine after drinking, and that it should probably not be used on the road.
Maunder’s mother called the whole incident ‘embarrassing’.
