Police called on 'drunk' circus

A performance by a Russian circus was so bad that the police were called in.

The touring performers who were putting on a show inBelarusian city of Vitebsk where suspected of being drunk as artistes repeatedly fell off bicycles and jugglers dropped their props, reported the BBC.

Posters had promised "jugglers and midgets, fantasy heroes and performing animals", put on by the Student Association of Kostroma, a city in central Russia.

During the interval angry spectators demanded their money back and someone called the police, after a rumour circulated that the performers we drunk.

"How else can you explain that one fell off their bike three times in two minutes?" one spectator told Komsomolskaya Pravda.

A Belarussian police spokesman said an investigation was under way into whether a crime had been committed.
