We all hate paying tax, right? Well in Romania the people have magic on their side. Witches in the country have cast a spell on the officials in charge of new tax laws which took effect on January 1.
The law comes as part of government attempts to bring in more revenue and crack down on tax evasion during the recession.
Professions such as witch, fortune teller and astrologer are now to be taxed when previously they weren’t.
Angry witches threw the poisonous mandrake plant into the Danube to put a curse on the tax officials.
Witch Alisia told Sky News, "This law is foolish. What is there to tax, when we hardly earn anything?”
"The lawmakers don't look at themselves, at how much they make, their tricks; they steal and they come to us asking us to put spells on their enemies."
However, another witch Mihaela Minca, said the law is very good. "It means that our magic gifts are recognised and I can open my own practice."
