Hungarian budget airline Wizz Air has launched its annual WIZZ Youth Challenge. The competition invites business-minded students from Europe to show off their professional skill set by solving a real-life business problem.

The challenge asks teams of up to four students, enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s course at a university based in a country that Wizz Air flies to, to present an inventive, imaginative and sustainable idea to help ensure Wizz remains the most environmentally-friendly airline in Europe.

Since its first flight in 2004, Wizz Air has grown to be the largest budget airline in Central and Eastern Europe, offering over 650 routes and connecting 147 different destinations across 44 countries.

The competition provides forward-thinking students with the “opportunity to take on bright young minds from across Europe, gain invaluable industry knowledge and to present your ideas to the Group CEO of Wizz Air, József Váradi.”

Stephen Jones, the Deputy CEO and Managing Director of the airline, says that entrants will not only “have the chance to gain professional experience, but they will also have a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn about the aviation industry as well as receive tips and guidance from Wizz Air management.”

Jones adds: “Sustainability is something that we take very seriously at WIZZ, and we are proud to be the greenest airline in Europe. We are continually on the lookout for innovative ideas and solutions which complement our existing sustainability initiatives, and what better place to turn to than Europe’s business leaders of the future?"

The lucky first-place winners will receive a year’s worth of unlimited travel on the WIZZ network, dinner with József Váradi, and will see their sustainable idea executed across the airline.

Those in second place will receive two free return tickets to Wizz Air destinations of their choice, and those in third place will receive one return ticket each.

How can you take part?

Students need to assemble their team and register their interest on the Wizz Air website by the 1st September 2019.

On the 2nd September, participants will have access to a case study, from which they must brainstorm an innovative response. Solutions should be submitted to Wizz Air by the 15th September and teams can expect to hear whether they are successful by the 30th September.

Shortlisted teams will be invited to the final in Budapest on the 14th and 15th October 2019, where they will present their ground-breaking idea to the Group CEO of Wizz Air.

The company has previously successfully organised two WIZZ Youth Challenges, in 2017 and 2018, as well as the popular “Flight to the Unknown” competition last year.
