One of the best parts of travelling is being able to give back to those around you. Souljourn Yoga is a non-profit organisation which hosts retreats around the world in order to raise money for educating girls in developing countries.

Their next retreat is taking place in the stunning Cape Town in South Africa, a location famous for its incredibly diverse culture, beautiful scenery and of course wild animals. A ten-day-long getaway with a jammed packed itinerary means that every day will be filled with a different experience of Cape Town.

Exploring the coast

In the first week, guests have the chance to experience a whole manner of things. There’s yoga (of course) but also trips to the independent markets and tours of some of Cape Town’s most iconic landmarks.

Of course, you can’t visit the South African coast without exploring the waters, and there are surfing lessons as well as a mountain hike. A great way to see the sites in a slightly less conventional way.

Meeting the wildlife

No trip to South Africa would be complete without seeing their incredible wildlife. A trip to a game reserve is on the itinerary – but don’t worry, it’s a reserve dedicated to caring for endangered animals and making sure that they are safe.

There’s also the chance to go snorkelling and see what lives under the water in Cape Town, a once in a lifetime opportunity to explore beneath the South African sea.

In honour of caring for yourself and treating your body, the retreat comes with its own private chef. The chef prepares vegan dishes throughout the stay, and what better way to start the day than with a yummy vegan breakfast and some yoga? You'll learn to become at one with yourself and will come back with a whole new outlook on life.

Giving back

Despite all the fun activities – the single most important part of the retreat is, of course, the chance to give back. The money raised from the retreat will go towards educating girls in first world countries, and on the trip, you will also meet some of the women.

Their partner organisation, the Lalela Project, has a female empowerment programmes in which volunteers will spend time with young women, working together through making art and movement.

The Souljourn Yoga Retreat will take place in South Africa in January 2020. For more information about the retreat and the organisation, click here.
