The Greek Islands are stunning and have something for everyone.
With that in mind, we're going to share the five best Greek islands to visit this summer. Plan ahead and find the island that best suits you!
1. Crete
Crete is one of the biggest Greek islands, so if you're going to visit make sure you spend at least a few days, maybe even a week there.
There is so much to do and see. From incredible beaches, interesting history to delectable food. If you are in Rethymno, then definitely make time for the Fortezza, the views are stunning and it's just an incredibly cool place. If you like the outdoors and are a big history buff, then Crete is definitely somewhere you should consider adding to your island hopping list.
2. Santorini
If you're feeling a little more flush then Santorini is the place for you.
It's quite small, and a perfect pit stop on your island hopping adventure. You could soak up the whole island in a matter of two days! Don't miss the sunset at Oia, but be warned: if you walk down to the port at Fira, you will have to walk all the way back up the hundreds of steps and avoid straying donkeys!
Remember to stock up on bottled water: the island does not have safe drinking water from the taps.
If you're wanting more of a party vibe, then Mykonos is the place to be. It has the best nightlife and clubs in all of Greece and is also a well-known paradise for the LGBTQ+ community looking for safe and fun nightclubs.
If you and your friends are looking to blow off some steam during the night and enjoy sandy beaches and watersports during the day, then Mykonos is the place for you.
4. Naxos
If you're looking for an island to visit with your family, then Naxos is the best place for you, as it has many family-friendly hotels.
It is quite a large island, and best explored on by car, particularly on a flying visit. Equally, if you are wanting to do a student backpacking holiday, then hiking is a great way to see the island. It also has many beautiful beaches for you to relax on.
5. Folegrandos
If you're looking to unwind in peace and quiet, look no further than Folegrandos.
It has lots of winding paths all around the island if you like hiking and it is one of the lesser-known islands, so it won't be as packed with tourists as the other islands. It's not so good if you're wanting all the tourist amenities you might get on one of the bigger islands, but if you are truly wanting to get away and enjoy some solitude, then Folegrandos has some beautiful villages, great food, pretty untouched beaches and most importantly is far away from anyone!
