Christmas is almost upon us so it’s time to start thinking about how you’re going to ring in the New Year. Luckily, you don’t need to go far or spend big to have a fantastic New Year’s Eve, as the UK has some of the best celebrations and destinations in the world, whether you want to start 2018 raging or relaxing.

London will always be close to our hearts, but there are so many other places in the UK to have an incredible New Year’s Eve (and minus the bustle too). Here are some of the most weird and wonderful New Year’s destinations:

Scotland’s capital comes to life at this magical time of year with Hogmanay, a three-day celebration from the 30th December to the 1st January. Bundle up, wander the city’s streets in full festive swing and enjoy the many events, from the torchlight procession to the New Year’s Eve ‘Concert in the Garden’ (headlined this year by Lily Allen).

St Ives

This quaint little Cornish town doesn’t seem like the most obvious place to spend New Year’s, but it is becoming one of the most popular places in the UK to say goodbye to the old and in with the new. The whole town (and beach) becomes a massive street party filled with people in fancy dress – what’s not to love?

If you want to dance the night away, then Manchester is the place to spend New Year’s Eve! The Warehouse Project and The Ritz have some of the most extravagant nights of the year, with plenty of other venues to take advantage of across the city, whatever your tastes.

Experience a New Year’s like no other in this Aberdeenshire village with its renowned Fireballs Ceremony. At the stroke of midnight watch in awe as a procession of people walk the streets swinging ‘fireballs’ around their heads in elaborate displays, a tradition dating back hundreds of years - said to scare away bad spirits.

The Lake District

If you want a more laid back New Year’s Eve, get away from it all among these beautiful rolling mountains. Grab some of your friends, find a cosy inn or cottage, and unwind with awesome scenery, cosy fires and delicious food. Local pubs will still get going on New Year’s Eve, or go all out with a house party to be remembered.

Head to Winter Wonderland in the Welsh Capital for a festive evening of ice skating, fairground rides, live music and an incredible fireworks display.  If you want to class it up, check out the Swan Lake Ballet at St David’s Hall during the day. Afterwards hit up the Alpine Village for some seriously good food.
