Far from its ‘wrong side of the river’ image of old, the South Bank is now a vibrant, Instagram-friendly London wonder and never more so than in winter.

So much is crammed into a few short miles of the Thames bank, and as winter gets into full swing it really comes into its own.

These are just a few ways to spend your winter days and nights on the South Bank:

What’s more it’s FREE – although with limited seats (100 to be exact) it is first come, first served.

They also have a load of Christmassy exhibitions and workshops, as well as their skate park, diner and bar.

Winter Festival at Southbank Centre

The Southbank Centre’s massive Winter Festival is back for another year. If you can’t find something to float your wintery boat there’s probably something wrong with you!

The Winter Market brings wooden chalets crammed with festive food, drinks and gifts. It’s worth it just to grab some mulled wine on the riverbank.

For lovely winter booze - The Rekorderlig Cider Lodge brings a taste of Scandinavia (food and drink) to the South Bank in its two storey lodge.

While ice skating maybe be the more seasonal option, the Bump Rollerdisco is a worthy alternative – it’s inside so that at least ensures you not getting rained on.

There’s also performances La Soirée and Slava’s Snowshow ,festive concerts, social dances, choirs, a weekend dedicated to charitable causes and winter festivities.

For the New Year, the South Bank Centre has some special up its sleeve with their Vintage New Year’s Eve Party. Over five-floors the Royal Festival Hall is opening seven vintage nightclubs, a dining hall, a hair and beauty salon, photo studios and a private terrace overlooking the Thames for a stunning view of London’s world-famous fireworks.
