Are you a travel-savvy blogger? CrossCountry trains have launched a competition to find five student bloggers. The winners will get the opportunity to blog for CrossCountry as well as a mentoring session with a top journalist. Tom Hall is a writer and the editor of the Lonely Planet website and he will be mentoring the lucky winners. He says that working with student writers is something he's always wanted to do. “I know how tough the industry is and think this programme is a great opportunity for student writers to get ahead of the competition while unlocking the secrets of the UK’s cities to a wider audience,” he says. The competition is being run to promote a new deal for NUS extra card holders. CrossCountry rail offers 10% off advance tickets to those who hold NUS, graduate and apprentice extra cards. Clare Shufflebottom, Partnerships Manager at CrossCountry said: “We wanted to go one step further and not only offer students a chance to explore other cities and towns along our route but provide them with a tangible opportunity to test their writing abilities and gain invaluable industry advice.” Students can enter the competition via the Facebook page. To enter, all you need is a sample of your writing, published or unpublished. There's a 200 word limit on entries and the closing date is Thursday October 31st at 5pm.
