Back to the future with DeLorean new flying cars

Paul DeLorean, nephew of the iconic car manufacturer creator, is working on a flying car prototype with his own aerospace company.

Competing with  Larry Page, Airbus and Uber, Paul DeLorean talked to Wired about his new project.

“The aircraft is nearly 20 feet long and 18.5 feet wide, but the wings do a clever Transformers-style hinge and pivot to tuck in against the side, so it can squeeze into a large garage.”

Propulsion is all electric, and DeLorean wants to make the craft self-flying, so anyone can use it without a special license.

He intends to create the craft with the extremely wide range of 120 miles. This because, he claims, he plans to cruise at higher altitudes than other flying car projects.

DeLorean said he expects to have a fully-working prototype by the end of next year, and will conduct unmanned test-flights shortly after that.

As for when you’ll be able to buy one of the cars from Back to the Future, or how much you'll need to pay for it, that’s still to be determined.

“Where we're going, we won't need roads..” said Doc in Back to the Future. What are your views about flying cars? Let us know in the comments below.
