CBBC have announced plans to reboot the classic children's TV gameshow Raven, with a brand new challenge host.

Over 2,000 young people aged 9-13 applied to be one of the 16 contestants taking on the revamped challenge.

The original series aired between 2002-2010 and featured a variety of spin-off series including Raven: The Dragon's Eye and Raven: The Secret Temple.

The gameshow saw the titular Scottish warrior guide a brave group of young contestants through a variety of obstacles designed to test intellect, courage, agility and strength, whilst battling against the villainous Nevar and his army of minions- demonic hooded figures in brown cloaks. At the end, only one contestant could prevail and be named the Ultimate Champion for the series.

Aisha Touissant will be taking on the role of contestant guide in the rebooted series and is clearly excited to get involved in the new series. "I'm absolutely thrilled to be the new Raven. I was a massive fan of the original series and remember rushing home from school so I didn't miss an episode – it was always so exciting."

"I used to dream of one day being a warrior contestant – I never for a second imagined that I'd one day be Raven," she continued. "My 11-year-old self would be gobsmacked! Pulling on the costume for the very first time was a very special moment."

Original actor James Mackenzie is also set to feature in the series as his famous incarnation of the feathered mentor.
Raven is set to film in Cairngorms National Park between July and September, and will air later this year.
... 'May the luck of the raven's eye be with you.'
