The first full trailer of the HBO classic The Leftovers gives a look into the show's third and final season, which is only a month away.

The plot remains shrouded in mystery, but the trailer shows the characters getting ready for another Departure Day (14 October), with the slight difference that this time, they are also looking at a potential apocalypse.

The Leftovers, created by Damon Lindelof (Lost), tells the story of a world where 2% of the population has disappeared due to an unexplained, fictional event. A group of people from New York - led by Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux) - struggle to go on with their lives, while dealing with the aftermath.

While the first season was set in Mapleton, New York, season two relocated the characters to Jarden, a town in Texas that was renamed 'Miracle' because it was unaffected by the event. Now the third season will take the audience on the other side of the globe to Australia.

Justin Theroux will return as main character Kevin Garvey, while Christopher Eccleston and Carrie Coon will reprise their roles as on-screen siblings Reverend Matt Jamison and Nora Durst. Other original cast members will return, including Liv Tyler, Scott Glenn, Amy Brenneman, Margaret Qualley and Chris Zylka. Regina King and Kevin Carroll, familiar additions by season two will also be back.

The Leftovers season 3 will premiere Sunday, April 16th on HBO. In the UK it will air on Sky Atlantic, but a premiere date hasn't been confirmed yet.
