The trailer for Big Little Lies, an HBO drama about three mothers that starsReese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley, dropped this Saturday - adding to the list of things to look forward to in 2017.
The trailer opens with a peaceful shot of the ocean and as Madeline (Reese Witherspoon) answers a child’s question, we get treated to much less innocent scenes, including a shooting and some graphic kitchen sex.
Based on Liane Moriarty's best-selling 2014 novel of the same name, the series centres on three mums whose apparently perfect lives begin to unravel to the point of murder.
What’s shaping out to be the series’ biggest advantage is the amazing cast, full of talented well-known actors. Though Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley will be taking the main roles, there are a few more names to make note of.
The cast also includes Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood), James Tupper (Revenge), Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation), Laura Dern (Enlightened) and Zoë Kravitz (Californication).
On the plus side, it’s also short. While seven episodes might seem very few, they are definitely enough for a tight, gritty and dynamic plot. That much is evident even in the first teaser.
Created by David E. Kelley and directed by Jean-Marc Vallée (Wild, Dallas Buyers Club), Big Little Lies hits the small screen in 2017, with a specific release date yet to be confirmed.
