Downton Abbey fans, we have some bad news

Downton Abbey, the ITV costume drama that has been a hit amongst audiences for over four years, is reportedly drawing to a close after the end of series six.

Reports suggest the final instalment will be filmed over spring and summer of this year with the series being aired for the final time in September.

Joanne Froggatt, Edith Carmichael and Allen Leech have all been spotted in LA recently for the SAG awards, and it is suspected they also had several meetings about both TV and film. Rumours first arose after Julian Fellowes begin working on a brand new series, The Gilded Age, about 19th century New York. Maybe the old cast of Downton Abbey could be the new cast of The Gilded Age?

Some stars, such as Dan Stevens, have already left Downton and have gone on to star in big budget films like The Guest - so it certainly won’t be long before we see other cast members take up roles in big US films or new TV series.

What will replace Downton Abbey on our Sunday evenings now?
