In what is probably the first big TV moment of 2015 the highly anticipated second series of Broadchurch, starring Olivia Colman and David Tennant, is set to hit our screens tonight.
So, what can we expect?
As yet nothing much has been given away, and creator Chris Chibnall and the star-studded cast are all remaining tight lipped about what is going to happen when we return to the tragedy-struck Dorset seaside town for a second run. What we do know, however, is that the drama has taken a new turn this time round: it’s not a murder mystery anymore. In an interview Chibnall made it clear that "It's not Midsomer in Broadchurch", before adding that, "Series two is a different journey… It has a different shape and energy, a different rhythm. It’s a new story, and there’s a different engine under the bonnet this year. (That’s as far as I go with car analogies, don’t panic).” Also there have been some new additions to the cast: Charlotte Rampling, Eve Myles, Meera Syal, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, James D'Arcy and Phoebe Waller-Bridge are joining the Broadchurch family, and the bulk of series one's cast are returning as well: David Tennant (as DI Alec Hardy), Olivia Colman (DS Ellie Miller), Jodie Whittaker (Beth Latimer), Andrew Buchan (Mark Latimer), Arthur Darvill (Reverend Paul Coates), Charlotte Beaumont (Chloe Latimer), Joe Simms (Nige Carter), Carolyn Pickles (Maggie Radcliffe) and Jonathan Bailey (Olly Stephens). Everything else about the drama’s second outing has been kept firmly under wraps, but you can watch the trailer here:
Broadchurch begins tonight on ITV at 9pm.
