The end of exams are in sight and summer is almost upon us - so take advantage of the inevitable miserable weather and get to know some of the leading ladies from ABC Studios’ hit shows Revenge, Desperate Housewives, Scandal, Mistresses, Devious Maids and GCB.

As the summer break drags on, escape the reality of being home with your parents for the summer and binge watch all those series you never had time to get into. As your relaxation time is obviously precious we’ve decided to put together a guide to some of the shows and the fabulous leading ladies of ABC Studios.

Set in the Hamptons, Revenge follows Emily, a young women who’s determined to get revenge on those who destroyed the life of her and her father. Central to the show’s success and played to steely perfection by Emily Van Camp is the character of Emily. She may look like the archetypal American girl next door, but her quick thinking, fixation on revenge and martial arts training means she’s one of the strongest female leads we’ve seen on television for quite some time. The interaction between Emily and her Arch nemesis Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) is a delight to watch as we see their subtle manipulation of all those around them.If you’re looking for a show with twists, glamorous outfits and amazing hair (Emily: you’re flawless) then Revenge may be for you.

This political/ romantic thriller from Shonda Rhimes (Producer of Grey’s Anatomy) follows Olivia Pope and her team of ‘fixers’ as they run a Crisis Management firm whose clients make up Washington’s political elite. Kerry Washington as Olivia delivers a stunning powerhouse of a performance as both a strong willed crisis manager and as a vulnerable women caught in a dangerous affair with President “Fitz”. You’ll be hard pressed to find a relationship with chemistry this strong - be prepared to throw your heart and soul into the outcome of the “Olitz” relationship. The series features a plethora of strong leading ladies including the tough as nails Quinn, spitfire Abby and the President’s wife Mellie (you’ll love to hate her). If you’re interested in a show with Scandal, political intrigue, quotable dialogue and relatable characters; then it’stime to get obsessed with Scandal.

Desperate Housewives

This critically acclaimed comedy-drama endeared itself to millions of fans with its take on suburban American Housewives and clocked in an impressive eight series in its run. The show centres on the tangled lives of a group of housewives who live on the fictional Wisteria Lane and you’ll grow to love the eccentric cast of characters. No show does black comedy quite like this, and the series successfully manages to turn many Housewife clichés on their head. The character of Bree embodies the spirit of the show as a parody of the perfect housewife with a less than perfect reality. In spite of all the catfights and melodrama this is really a show about the power of female friendship and if you missed out the first time round, it’s well worth catching this summer.

If you’re looking for a relationship drama to put your summer fling into perspective look no further than Mistresses. The show follows four women who have, to put it lightly, four very messy personal lives. This is a great show to watch with your girlfriends and you’ll get sucked into the lives of these four women as they enter some very morally grey relationships. The show also boasts an impressive line-up of actresses including Alyssa Milano (Charmed), Rochelle Aytes, Yunjin Kim (LOST) and Jes Macallan, who manage to make their characters sympathetic in contrast to some of their very dubious actions.

The setting of the Deep South may seem totally alien for UK viewers, but you’ll be hard pressed to find a show with more heart than GCB. The show’s a brilliant parody of the American South and revolves around the controversial topicsof Christianity, revenge, redemption and sex. Standouts from the main cast include the squeaky voiced Kristin Chenoweth (Glee) exceling as Carlene Cockburn, the series main antagonist, who perfects her plastic smile to a tee. Amongst the humour, gossip and mean girl shenanigans there’s also a lot of heart involved and you’ll find yourself sympathising with even the meanest characters involved in the drama. If you want a show with a lot of Southern charm and drama then GCB might be for you.

Devious Maids

From Marc Cherry, the creator of Desperate Housewives, and Executive Producer Eva Longoria, the show follows a group of maids who work for the rich and powerful in Beverly Hills. A fantastic cast of actresses make up the female ensemble and there’s more than enough intrigue, scandal and dirty secrets to get you hooked. You’ll love the subtle class warfare found in the often strained relationships between the families and their hired help. You won’t find more glamorous maids than these on your television screens and you’ll soon be addicted with all the plot twists and turns. With a murder mystery opener to get you hooked, prepare for some intense summer viewership.
