In January this year, Utopia debuted on Channel 4. A six-part British conspiracy thriller, the series was a hit both critically and commercially. This week C4 gave the green light for production to go ahead on series two. Writer Dennis Kelly, director Marc Munden, and BAFTA winning producer Bekki-Wray Rogers are teaming up once again to create the next few instalments of a series that left viewers wracking their brains for answers to countless questions evoked by the twisting, intricate plot. It has been disclosed that Kelly has locked himself away in a nuclear fallout shelter and surrounded himself with condiments, kitchen implements and Cristobel Tapia’s contagious soundtrack to foster inspiration for the second series. Head of Drama Piers Wenger said: "Thanks to Dennis Kelly's uncompromising and brilliant writing and Marc Munden's visionary direction, the first series of Utopia shocked and delighted critics and fans by turns. “Following the success of the first run, we are thrilled to announce further adventures for Utopia's eclectic cast of characters even stranger, more imaginative and brilliantly intriguing than the first". Utopia Series 2 goes into production later this year.
