E4 has announced a new sitcom, Drifters, starring the girls from The Inbetweeners movie.

"Drifters promises to be a really funny sitcom about really funny girls," assures Fiona McDermott, E4's Comedy Comissioning Editor.

It is a story of the three girls in their early twenties, as they make their first steps into the post-graduation world. Stuck in dead end jobs in their home town of Leeds they try to figure out what they want to do with their lives, "making terrible decisions, but having a brilliant time doing it."

The three young ladies drift between the dread of knowing that there’s more responsibility to be taken soon and the excitement coming from the fact they still don’t have any.

Drifters is written by and starring Jessica Knappett (Meg) who together with Lydia Rose Bewley (Bunny) played clubbers who encountered the Inbetweeners boys spending their holiday in Crete. Lauren O’Rourke (Laura) was Neil’s girlfriend back home.

Produced for Channel 4 by E4 the sitcom seems to be in safe hands – after all it comes from the makers of the Inbetweeners, which made earned £45 million at the box office and been remade for the US market.

Will the Drifters outdo the Inbetweeners? We will find out soon.

Drifters is currently in production.
