Monday Night Raw

This Thursday wrestling fans around the world will be tuning in to watch Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson make his triumphant return to RAW, according to a press release from WWE.

The Rock’s appearance coincides with the “historic” 1000th edition of the long-running wrestling programme.

Popular superstars Bret ‘Hit Man’ Hart, Shawn Michaels and ‘Hardcore Legend’ Mick Foley are also slated to return.

This will no doubt be a defining moment for the Stanford, Connecticut based promotion as the episode heralds the start of new three-hour format (currently RAW is two hours).

However, some commentators have questioned whether or not WWE will be able to maintain a weekly three-hour supershow in the long run. Drake Oz of Bleacher Report writes: “[fans] will be overexposed to RAW quickly, and will not like it”, and believes WWE will ditch the format by 2013.

What we do know is, with the scheduled WWE Television Network on the rocks, the company has a lot riding on the show’s success.

Raw celebrates its 1000th episode in a three hour supershow July 26th on the USA Network and Sky Sports 2.
