It makes us very happy to finally announce that the runner-up prize for our Student Travel Writer Competition will be a combo trip to Japan and South Korea. The trip will be provided by our partners ESL – Language Travel, and will consist of one week in the Japanese city of Kobe followed by one week in the South Korean capital Seoul, or vice versa. Mountain-framed Kobe is a city in Osaka Bay in Central Japan, and is known for its multiculturalism, beautiful scenery, exciting nightlife – and of course its eponymous beef. Antique cable cars can take you from the city up to nearby Mount Rokko, where you can relax amongst the outdoor hot springs whilst taking in the panoramic city views. The other leg of your trip will take you to South Korean capital Seoul, an undisputed world city that fuses East and West with Buddhist temples and ancient palaces sitting alongside skyscrapers. The prize includes a one-week Japanese language course followed by a one-week course in Korean. The lucky writer will attend classes for two to three hours each day, before being set free to immerse themselves in the local culture. To build on this cultural immersion, accommodation will be provided by a host family for the entire trip. Return flights from the UK to Japan/South Korea (depending on which destination you choose to visit first) and a flight between Japan and South Korea are included as part of the package. That’s on top of the Eurolines coach pass that will see five finalists making their way around Europe this summer. Yes, we know we’re good to you. Check out our gallery below for a taster of what you can expect if you're lucky enough to win this trip. And remember, this amazing opportunity is ONLY the runner-up prize... imagine what we'll be giving the winner! We’ll be announcing the top prize later this afternoon, so watch this space and all will be revealed... In the meantime, see the existing entries here and check out our expert judging panel.
