With entries flowing in for our first ever Student Travel Writing competition, you might want to know who it is who will be picking the finalists and eventual winner.

We’ve assembled a team of judges who know the world of travel writing inside out. Getting the nod from these guys shows you’re on the way to being a great travel writer.

So let’s meet our judges:

Kris Naudts – Founder and CEO of The Culture Trip

Kris NaudtsAfter careers as an academic psychiatrist at King’s College and a medical director of a large private psychiatric hospital in London, Belgium-born Kris Naudts, changed careers and started The Culture Trip.

The site is a one-stop site for global culture and lifestyle, covering art, culture, food and travel for every country in the world. 1.5 million people from all over the globe visit each month for their culture trip fix. It’s a great site, but don’t take our word for it.

In 2014 they won UK Website of the Year Award for Arts & Culture and were named 1 of 25 UK Tech Companies to Watch UK (2013); and a Top Travel & Arts Site by The Guardian / The Times (2012).

Nathan Millward – Adventure travel writer

Nathan MillwardOne of our own, Nathan started his writing life on the pages of The National Student and immediately stood out for his mad-cap adventures. His first piece was about taking part in the Student Gumball Rally, another about a 24-hour New Year’s Eve round trip to Amsterdam.

But it was his monthly column (back in our printed newspaper days) charting his epic journey back from Sydney to the UK on an Australian Postie Bike that cemented his career. Those travels were turned into his first book The Long Ride Home and lead him to edit an adventure biking magazine.

Nathan has just published his second book Running Towards The Light charting a trip on the same bike, named Dorothy, across the US.
