Stop your UCAS application and get to the vineyard, a British college is offering actual degrees in wine making.
We’ve found possibly the best news to brighten up your dreary Monday, Plumpton College in East Sussex is offering a range of degrees in wine production and wine business. Yes, really.
The college even has its own vineyards, 10 hectares to be precise, which they use to produce 40,000 bottles of award-winning wines each year.
If that didn’t sound impressive enough, they also have a purpose built Wine Centre which includes a commercial winery, research winery, laboratories and a sensory evaluation.
Students are notoriously associated with alcohol and drinking, and now you can fully immerse yourself in the world of wine.
These are the qualifications on offer:Iincludes a ‘Wines of the World’ module and involves study trips to European wine-producing regions. Very fancy.
This is essentially ‘the science of grape growing and winemaking’. You’ll take part in wine sensory evaluation and wine analysis, and in your final year there’s also the possibility of completing a placement at a Californian winery. A vocational understanding of the UK wine industry and the knowledge to start your very own wine business. A foundation degree where you’ll focus on vine growing, with fascinating modules such as grapevine biology. If you get high grades in key modules, you’ll then be invited to transfer to the BSc (Hons) Viticulture & Oenology. The MSc at Plumpton is the only English-speaking MSc available in Europe and prepares you for roles where a high technical knowledge is needed, like that of a vineyard manager or wine consultant.
