There’s no doubt that at least half the attraction of escaping to university is the desire to be seduced by new social spaces: tempting romance in darkened clubs, brushing arms in lecture halls, and freeing yourself from past preconceptions.

That said, is there not something even more romantic in the fleeting glimpse of an old-flame in a new space? In that shy smile and fresh wonder? In the new perspective of forgotten loves?

Happn is a dating app born in none other than the city of romance itself. And so it was by recognising the unique attraction stirred by romances of the past, that founders Didier Rapport, Fabien Cohen and Antony Cohen gave birth to an innovative dating app like no other.

Currently sweeping the UK off its feet, Happn, unlike other dating apps, allows its users to discover and reconnect with people they have crossed paths with before. And where better to do so than at university?

In anticipation of the new university year, Claire Certain, Global Head of Trends at Happn, has been calculating how romantically inclined the UK’s higher-ed cities are.

London it seems, has come out on top with five capital universities appearing in the top ten ‘hottest list’, meanwhile the University of Edinburgh takes the top-spot for universities outside of London.

“If you’re heading up north and looking for romance this September, you’re in luck. Who knows if it’s the chilly weather or northern charm bringing people together, but love is in the air at the UK’s northern-most universities.”

Check out the full lists below, to preempt your chances of reigniting romance this September:
