A new study conducted by Study.EU has ranked 30 European countries in order of how appealing they are to international university students. Germany has come out on top by a considerable margin, with the UK and the Netherlands coming next.
The study has marked the universities out of 100, taking factors such as quality of education, cost, and career prospects into account.
Europe has approximately 4,000 universities, with 3,300 of them located in EU countries.
Despite coming second the UK was actually the most expensive European country for international students. This is probably what let it down in comparison with Germany. However, the number of students studying in English is expected to double by 2021.
The top ten is dominated by continental, Western European countries. Russia is the only Eastern European nation to be featured in the top ten, currently holding sixth place.
Study.EU is a Hamburg-based company that connect international students with study programmes within Europe. They closely collaborate with universities across Europe and also governmental organisations.
They report that continental Europe is becoming more and more appealing to international students. They say that prospective students are being put off a UK education due to the weakness of the the pound and uncertainty regarding deportations.
