Student found dead in UCLan halls

An international student was found dead in the iQ Kopa halls of residence of Preston-based UCLan over the weekend.

University security staff called police around 8pm on Saturday evening.

A police spokesperson said the death was being treated as 'unexplained' and that they were investigating.

The police have not yet confirmed the identity of the student as they try and reach the family, who are understood to live overseas.

Insp Steve Bradshaw, of Lancashire Police, said: "Police were contacted by staff at UCLan at 8pm on Saturday informing them of the death of a student at a halls of residence on Moor Lane.

"An investigation has been launched and police are currently treating the death as unexplained. Efforts to contact [the] family are underway."

Some details have been omitted until confirmation that the family have been informed.
