Copycat shooting threatened at University of Edinburgh

Share This Article:

"Don't [go] to University of Edinburgh tomorrow" is the chilling threat of an Oregon mass shooting copycat.

University of EdinburghThe post on internet forum 4chan came less than four hours after a gunman in America killed nine and wounded 20 at a community college.

The copycat asked others to “keep checking the news. You’ll see a lot of us on the news over the next few days.”

Police Scotland issued a statement: "Police Scotland is investigating following reports of a communication posted to a website.  Enquiries into this communication are currently ongoing."

A commenter on the thread warned: "The blood of the normies must run."

Students posting on reddit said they were planning to skip class because of the threat.

Others responded quite bluntly: "Just because some twat on the internet said it doesn't mean you should take it seriously"

Members of the 4chan community were promoting the mass shooting at Oregon, with some giving advice on how to kill more people.

Speaking to The Student, the University of Edinburgh security team said: ““Edinburgh University Security Section are aware of the possible threat towards The University on 2nd October 2015 and are dealing with it in accordance to our procedures and in liaison with Police Scotland.”

At this time, there is nothing to suggest the threat is genuine, although a social media user hoped the anonymous poster “gets locked up for a bit even if it’s a hoax.”
