Leeds Trinity University announces line-up for prestigious Journalism Week

Leeds Trinity University has announced the line-up for its seventh annual Journalism Week, which is taking place from 2nd to 5th March.

Key figures from a selection of the UK’s leading broadcasters, newspapers, magazines and online media outlets will once again be speaking during the week.

Opening Journalism Week will be BBC Look North presenter Harry Gration, followed by the BBC’s Sonali Shah, while Sky News sports editor Nick Powell and Stephen Rigley, acting deputy editor at the Sunday Express, will also be running workshops at the event.

Attendees will also be hearing from journalists and industry experts from a number of high profile media outlets, including the Mail on Sunday, Cosmopolitan, Channel 4 News, Daily Mirror and BBC Look North.

Each speaker will provide a unique insight into how to get into the industry, what to expect, how to succeed in journalism and how to improve chances of success.

Leeds Trinity University’s postgraduate journalism trainees will report on the week across a variety of digital and social platforms, showcasing the multi-platform skills that the undergraduate and postgraduate journalism courses at Leeds Trinity help to develop.

“Journalism Week is one of the most anticipated events on the Leeds Trinity University calendar and creates a real buzz on campus. Over the years, the event has built a reputation for bringing some of the biggest players in the industry to Leeds, and this year’s event will be no exception.

Leeds Trinity University’s Centre for Journalism is renowned for successfully launching the journalism careers of its trainees, thanks to its focus on industry-relevant studies, vocational training and cutting-edge academic research. Trainees are taught by lecturers with extensive experience in the journalism industry, and the Centre has developed partnerships with many major news organisations, including BBC North in MediaCityUK, which ensure that trainees get access to the best quality placements, mentoring opportunities and expert industry speakers.

Leeds Trinity University’s postgraduate journalism courses generate an employability rate of between 95-100% each year, with many students securing journalism industry positions before completing the course.
