An Oxford University student and rugby club secretary has been thrown out of university and fined £500 after sending a sexist email calling on team members to spike their dates’ drinks, the Oxford Tab has reported. The Pembroke College Rugby Club secretary Woo Kim sent out an email entitled “FREE PUSSY” to the team’s fifty members, in which he called on each of them to bring a female fresher as a date along with three bottles of wine. Team members were then encouraged to place a “substance of your choice” inside their date’s wine, with anything allowed “but not your sperm”. Another member of the team was told to bring a positive pregnancy test, with the task being “ongoing until you succeed”. The email sparked outrage among the college’s student body and was called “deeply offensive” by Pembroke JCR president Rebecca Howe. Woo Kim resigned from his position, but this wasn’t seen as punishment enough by the university who have asked him to leave for the remainder of 2013, attend a sexual harassment workshop and pay a £500 fine. He has since apologised to the college, admitting that the email was “horrendous” and that he “cannot be more sincere about my apology”. The rugby team were relegated by the Oxford University Rugby club, had all social events for the rest of the term cancelled and also saw their team captain resign. The response to the punishments has been mixed, with some students praising Pembroke’s harsh stance and others seeing it as too severe. “£500 is a huge amount of money, and fines as a symbolic punishment aren’t always appropriate,” said Rebecca Howe. "I think that the reactions to and the punishment of the social secretary have been sufficient warning to the rest of the college and the wider university community,” she added.
