The International Olympic Committee (IOC) have approved proposals for four new sports to be introduced ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games, which is being held in France.

Breakdancing is one of them and officials are keen to see the sport introduced, with a final decision to be made by December 2020.

Breaking was proposed by the IOC in February and has now been approved unanimously by IOC members.

The committee is also proposing to introduce Skateboarding, Surfing, and Sport Climbing at the Summer Games in Tokyo next year.

Tony Estanguet, President of the 2024 Olympic Games spoke to the BBC and said his fellow committee members have all given their approval: "As well as being spectacular and creative, they generate strong engagement among young people.
"They also project the values that we hold dear in terms of openness and diversity.''

Breakdancing made its international debut last year at the Buenos Aires Youth Summer Games. If the green light is given, the competitions will include 16 men's and women's athletes in the medal events in Paris.

Breakdancing also was featured at the Youth Olympic Games in 2018 however there were no British athletes partaking. Sergei Chernyshev from Russia took home the first-ever gold medal for boys.
