Thierry Henry: Monaco 'sack' manager after just three months in charge

Monaco have 'sacked' manager Thierry Henry after just 20 games in charge.

The Ligue 1 strugglers announced on Thursday he had been suspended, but news sites such as, BBC Sport and TalkSport  say this is: “Merely procedural and that the France World Cup winner has already left the club.”

Leonardo Jardim, who himself was fired as head coach three months ago, is expected to replace the former World Cup Winner.

The 2017 French champions are in the relegation zone after only five wins under Henry in all competitions.

Assistant manager Franck Passi, who has had previous spells with Marseille and Lille will take training on Friday, the club said.

Henry - who was hired in October - had apologised for using foul language to insult Strasbourg defender Kenny Lala during his side's 5-1 defeat on Saturday.

Arsenal's all-time leading scorer is in his first managerial role, having previously been Belgium assistant boss.

He had been on the shortlist for the Aston Villa manager's job in October before taking the job at the club where he started his playing career.

Thierry Henry’s long awaited return to his first club did not produce the fairytale he and many Monacans would have hoped for.

Instead, just two wins in 12, insulting a Strasbourg player, arguments with some of the media and the decision to drop some of his first-team players into the reserves without mentioning it to the hierarchy at the club in the last fixture cost him the job.

Leonardo Jardim is the favourite to replace Henry. He still lives in Monaco and, in such a small nation, allegedly sees the players in the street when he does his shopping. He won the league in 2017 before being sacked himself when results took a turn for the worse.
