There is a shock as the two Red Bull clubs come together whilst Rangers salvage a draw late on against Villareal. Here's everything you missed from Thursday's opening round of Europa League fixtures.

Salzburg Shock

For the first time in their history albeit a very short one, Red Bull Leipzig took on their sister club Red Bull Salzburg in the 'Red Bull Derby.' Leipzig, arguably the bigger of the two clubs were favourites for the game yet Salzburg took the 3 points via an 89th-minute winner from Fredrik Gulbrandsen.

Munas Dabbur and Amadou Haidara put Salzburg 2-0 up yet Leipzig clawed their way back into the game with Konrad Laimer and Yussuf Poulsen both netting once. Hannes Wolf managed to find Gulbrandsen with just 1 minute to go and he was able to give the Australian Champions victory.

British sides start brightly

The two Scottish sides Celtic and Rangers both secured good results. Celtic beat Rosenborg 1-0 with Leigh Griffiths scoring late whilst Rangers managed to come from behind twice to draw with Villareal 2-2. Goals courtesy of Scott Arfield and Kyle Lafferty. The other game in Rangers group saw Rapid Vienna win 2-0 against Spartak Moscow.

The other British sides both managed wins with Arsenal beating Vorskla Poltava 4-2 and Hazard-less Chelsea beat PAOK Salonika 1-0 through Willian although the scoreline did not reflect the Blue's dominance.

Chelsea's other opponents BATE Borisov beat Hungarian side MOL Vidi 2-0 and Sporting Lisbon beat Qarabag 2-0 in Arsenal's group.

Best of the rest

German side Eintracht Frankfurt, who were down to 10 men for the last half an hour scored an 89th minute winner against Marseille. Jetro Willems received a red card on 59 minutes with the scores level at 1-1. Lucas Ocampos put Marseille into an early lead before Lucas Torro leveled early into the second half. Luka Jovic, on loan from Benfica, was the hero for Frankfurt.

The other big hitters in the competition got through the gameweek with no real shocks. Lazio beat Cyprian side Apollon Limassol 2-1 and Sevilla beat Standard Liege 5-1 with Ever Banega and Wissam Ben Yedder both bagged a brace either side of a Franco Vazquez goal.

In Group A Bayer Leverkusen beat Ludogrets 3-2 and Zurich beat AEK Larnaca 1-0. Group C saw Copenhagen draw with Zenit and Bordeaux lost away to Sparta Prague 1-0 under new manager Eric Bedouet.

In Group D Zagreb thrashed Fenerbahce 4-1 and Spartak Trvana beat Anderlecht 1-0. Group F nearly provided us with a shock but Gonzalo Higuain ensured AC Milan could scrape past Luxembourg champions Dudelage. The other game was a 0-0 draw between Betis and Olympiakos.

And Finally, Group I provided wins for both home sides as Genk beat Malmo 2-0 and Besiktas beat Norwegian side Sarpsborg 3-1.
