Three University of Bath students have signed terms to join the prestigious senior academy at Bath Rugby, taking the next steps in their road to becoming a professional.

Students Will Britton, Jack Davies and Tom Doughty have penned contracts with the Premiership club.

Britton, who plays second row has already made his senior debut, during the 21-8 victory over Newcastle Falcons in January. In addition to this he was captain of the University of Bath's first team.

Tom Doughty, who is a hooker, will take over the captaincy of the University first team from Britton. Whilst Davies plays in the back-row and will graduate from University this summer with a degree in sports and exercise science.

This is another example of the flourishing relationship between Bath Rugby and the University. Aaron James, the head of rugby at the Unviersity of Bath when speaking to Somerset Live said: "It shows that the partnership we have with Bath Rugby works for both parties, across a number of areas, including player recruitment into professional rugby."

This partnership could provide an example to other universities and professional sports teams and how a partnership could be beneficial for both parties. One could imagine that it will help find those players who have fallen through the net and have previously remained undiscovered thus wasting talent.
