World Cup: Tunisia 1-2 England

Share This Article:

England needed a very late Harry Kane goal to defeat Tunisia 2-1 in their first game in Group G.

Gareth Southgate's side opened the scoring in the 11th minute when captain Harry Kane converted a tap-in after Mouez Hassen could only palm away Harry Maguire's powerful header.

Tunisia offered very little going forward but were given a chance to equalise when Kyle Walker brought down Ferjani Sassi in the penalty area.

Sassi's then placed his penalty just beyond goalkeeper Jordan Pickford's reach after 35 minutes to level the scores at 1-1.

England had several chances to score a second goal but it seemed the match was running away from them.

But, on the 91st minute, Kane headed in England's winner after Maguire's flick on from Kieran Trippier's corner.
