James DeGale loses world title in shock defeat

James DeGale suffered a shock defeat to America’s Caleb Truax last night
Truax won via split decision after pushing the pace of the fight for the whole twelve rounds. While one of the three judges at ringside deemed the bout a draw the others saw Truax with a clear lead.
His aggressive style saw him on the front foot for most of the bout and DeGale looking a shadow of his former self. The Brit’s most apparent flaw was a low punch output but he looked confident until the fifth round
There were no similarly dangerous moments for the American, who claimed in his post-fight interview never to have been hurt by DeGale. Ultimately it was his toughness and come forward style, pitched against the inactivity of James DeGale, that won the judges over.
The result damages the Briton’s chances of arranging the fight he so wanted next year- a showdown against the winner of the World Boxing Super Series. Whether he can reignite former tensions with George Groves looks in the balance, but Chris Eubank Junior has already had his say on the loss over Twitter…
After all the trash talk & disrespectful comments @jamesdegale1 you go & put on a display like that!! All I can say is WOW!!! You have properly let down British Boxing #Shameful

He wasn’t alone, as thousands reacted to George Groves’s Tweet to his defeated former opponent…
Call it a day mate, you ain't got it no more.
