The University of Plymouth Students’ Union (UPSU) has suspended their Conservative Society after photos emerged showing Tory students wearing t-shirts strewn with offensive messages.
Posing proudly with a Hitler-style moustache, communist symbols and “F**K the NHS”, a group of students have caused a scandal.
One student, identified by The Mirror as Daniel Phillips-O’Leary, has “F**K the NHS” scrawled on his t-shirt alongside a Communist symbol.
Another, believed to be Ross Horton, has the word JUDE across his chest - German for Jew - above a smudged Star of David. Horton’s double hand symbol could be the “white power” symbol which is used by white supremacists, according to The Mirror.
In a statement UPSU said:
“The Students’ Union is aware of the incident regarding one of our societies and have taken prompt action by instigating an internal investigation and suspending the society in question.
“Whilst incidents like these are extremely rare, we take them very seriously. We totally condemn behaviour of this kind along with all forms of racism and anti-semitism.
“We obviously cannot comment further on the matter until our internal investigations are concluded.”
A University of Plymouth spokesperson said:
“The University does not tolerate anti-semitic or racist behaviour under any circumstance and will take disciplinary action in line with our procedures in the event of incidents such as this.
“We value our partnership working with the Students' Union and are grateful for their quick and responsible action in this case.”
