A University of Hartford student who boasted about poisoning her black roommate has been arrested and expelled.

Eighteen year-old Brianna Brochu bragged on Instagram about rubbing used tampons on her roommate Chennel ‘Jazzy’ Rowe’s bag, pouring mouldy clam dip in her lotion and putting her toothbrush inside her rectum.

Local police confirmed they had arrested Brochu, charging her with criminal mischief, breach of peace and intimidation based on bigotry.

Rowe revealed the details in a Facebook video where she told viewers she had been ill since moving in with Brochu.

"I thought maybe because it’s colder up here, I’m just catching a cold. After a month it got to the point where I had extreme throat pain that I couldn’t sleep, to the point where I couldn’t speak.

"I’m spending my own money that my parents give me for food and groceries, the health centre on campus is not free – in fact they’re expensive."

Rowe was even prescribed antibiotics by the campus doctor to help with the bacteria in her throat. However, after the relationship between the roommates became more hostile, Rowe decided to move out.

It was during the moving out process that Rowe was shown Brochu's posts by a neighbour.

Upon learning that her roommate was moving out, Brochu posted the following on her Instagram:

‘Finally did it yo girl got rid of her roommate!! After 1 1/12 month of spitting in her coconut oil, putting moldy clam dip in her lotions, rubbing used tampons on her backpack, putting her toothbrush places where the sun doesn’t shine and so much more I can finally say goodbye Jamaican Barbie.’

Rowe stated that she had every intention of pressing charges but ‘nothing can be done by anybody until the school’s public safety finishes the investigation.’

In a statement to The Tab, University of Hartford President Greg Woodward condemned what he considered was a ‘deeply upsetting’ incident of bullying.

‘Let me be clear: the accused student’s behavior was reprehensible and does not reflect the values of our institution. Let me also be clear that I am confident the University has taken all steps to pursue this matter seriously, and will continue to do so.’

‘The accused student was subsequently arrested by the West Hartford Police Department and her case will proceed through the legal process’.

Brochu has since been arrested and her case moved from community to civil court.
