Recent Sheffield graduate Joe Daniels has launched a Tinder profile encouraging students to quit smoking.

Smoking tinderThe four pictures on the profile show the ageing and effects of smoking, aimed at getting students to kick the habit.

Speaking to The National Student, Daniels said: "I started the campaign to try and experiment with how to get messages across to a younger demographic.

"They're less trusting of traditional approached so I thought an interactive approach through a commonly used app such as Tinder may yield better results."

Daniels started with an image of a "fairly attractive man" and then adding the effects of smoking, such as aged skin, greying hair, bags under the eyes and yellowing of the teeth.

The profile linked to the NHS smokefree page, but was promoted by Daniels, although some thought the NHS was behind the initiative, with one Buzzfeed commenter posting: "No way! I’ve matched with this account as well! V. Clever NHS."

Public Health England are currently a week into the Stoptober campaign, encouraging people to give up smoking, supported by comedians such as Bill Bailey and Rhod Gilbert.
