Diverse Apple Emoji Are Finally Here!
iOS 8.3 is out with a pleasant change to our ever-familiar world of emoji. Alongside the typical bug fixes and improvements, 300 new emoji have been added to the ever growing bank.
It also includes new languages for Siri, including Russian, Danish, Dutch, Thai, Swedish, Turkish and Portuguese.
The new update means that any human emoji's skin colour may be changed by tapping and holding. The racial diversity and transparency acts as one step towards not only equality, but a breakdown of the heterosexual white male seen as the "default".
Not only should the update be celebrated with racial inclusivity, but for its acknowledgement of LGBT communities. Though the emojis of two men and two women holding hands were available before, iOS 8.3 includes there are family emojis with two women and two men as the parents.
An array of new flags are also available.
For those unfamiliar with updating their iPhone software, all you need to do is hit Settings > General > Software Update.
The update is now available across all apple devices.
